Emma Arias - Class of 2021 | NRAS Academy

AACT-Emma

 Driven by a lifelong love for     animals, Emma has continued   exploring the natural world   through hands-on experience and higher education. After graduating from AACT in 2021, she earned a Bachelor    of Science in Zoology from Oregon State University. Her journey has included caring for giraffes during an internship at Zoo Boise and working closely with American black bears at the North American Bear Center, where she also educated the public on wildlife conservation. Now completing a ceramics apprenticeship in Oregon, she is embracing new creative directions while staying open to wherever her next adventure leads, an enduring example of curiosity and growth that defines the Trailblazer spirit.

Dr. Jonah Lack - Class of 2015 | Communication and Media Arts Academy

  Jonah’s journey has taken him     across the world in pursuit of   knowledge and discovery. After   graduating from AACT in 2015, he earned his degree in Linguistics and later moved to Hong Kong to pursue a PhD. Now a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jonah’s research focuses on language processing and neuroimaging—exploring how the brain understands and produces language. His dedication to learning and innovation exemplifies the curiosity and global mindset that define AACT alumni, carrying the Trailblazer spirit to every corner of the world.

Tashera Ortiz - Class of 2019 | Medical Academy                 

Tashera-AACT

  Tashera’s path reflects     dedication, service, and   exceptional achievement. After   graduating from AACT with   honors and earning the Doyle Scholarship, she chose to continue her education through military service, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 2019. She completed Hospital Corpsman A-School in San Antonio before beginning her first duty station at Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, where she gained experience across inpatient care and labor and delivery. From 2022 to 2025, she served operationally aboard the George Washington, George H. W. Bush, and Gerald R. Ford aircraft carriers, including a partial deployment in which the Ford earned the prestigious Battle “E” Ribbon. Now stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, she supports service members and their families in Family Medicine. Tashera recently has been awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Her journey embodies discipline, compassion, and the Trailblazer spirit in service to others.

Cory Starks - Class of 2017 | Engineering Academy

 Cory’s path from AACT to   professional engineering reflects   determination and focus. After   graduating in 2017, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. During college, Cory gained hands-on experience as a Software Engineering intern with Sierra Nevada Corporation, a role that evolved into his current full-time position. His journey showcases the innovation and perseverance that define AACT alumni, continuing to build a future shaped by curiosity, problem-solving, and the Trailblazer spirit.

Hunter Rand - Class of 2013 |                       Communication and Media Arts Academy

  Hunter’s path reflects creativity,     leadership, and an enduring   commitment to storytelling. After   earning four consecutive state gold medals in Broadcast News Production through SkillsUSA at AACT, he graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor’s in Journalism and a Minor in Art Studio. Hunter’s career has spanned education, athletics, and creative media—serving as Director of Social Media for Nevada Women’s Basketball, teaching CTE Video Production at Spanish Springs High School, and later co-founding Eddy Westin and Company. Today, he is the Director of Marketing at TrustMasters, Inc., while continuing to lead in film and live broadcast production. A longtime SkillsUSA leader and recently honored as a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Hunter was honored with the 2025 Reel Visionary Award for his impact on Northern Nevada’s film community. His journey exemplifies innovation, mentorship, and the Trailblazer spirit in motion.

Alyssa Akala - Class of 2013 | Culinary Arts Academy

  Alyssa’s journey reflects     passion, leadership, and a   commitment to  excellence in the hospitality industry. After   graduating from AACT, she   attended Johnson & Wales University in Denver, where she served as an orientation leader and connected students with campus resources. An internship at Walt Disney World helped her master high-volume restaurant service, leading to her acceptance into the competitive Marriott Voyage Program. Alyssa completed the program in Houston at the Marriott Marquis, managing a two-level sports bar before joining the opening team at the Gaylord Rockies. Her talent quickly earned her promotions from Supervisor to Sous Chef and then Senior Sous Chef. Today, she serves as an Operational Support Resource for Marriott Hotels, traveling the country to help properties strengthen their operations. Alyssa’s story showcases dedication, growth, and the Trailblazer spirit carried into every kitchen and community she serves.

Andrew Walter - Class of 2016 | Communication Arts and Media Academy

 Andrew’s journey reflects   compassion, dedication, and a   commitment to service. After   earning his bachelor’s degree in General Studies, he began working for the State of Nevada as a Forensic Specialist III, where he supports individuals in a secure inpatient setting on their path to clinical competency for trial. His role blends elements of mental health care and corrections, highlighting his ability to lead with empathy and resilience. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Andrew married fellow 2016 alum Cali Walter (Hunt), and together they recently welcomed their first child in July, continuing to build a life rooted in connection, growth, and the Trailblazer spirit.

Emilee Arias - Class of 2021 | Engineering Academy                 

AACT-Emilee

  Emilee’s  journey reflects   curiosity, adaptability, and a   deep passion for   understanding people and justice. After four active years at AACT participating in the Rover Team, SkillsUSA, and Leadership, she pursued Aerospace Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Following two years and several interviews with SpaceX, she discovered a new calling and returned to Reno to study Psychology and Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her research on the final statements of executed individuals in Texas led to a presentation before criminal justice professionals, where she proudly stood as the youngest and only undergraduate presenter. With experience in the Crime Analysis Unit at the Reno Police Department and the UNR Criminal Justice Department, she will soon complete dual degrees and begin a Master’s program. Passionate about teaching and reform, she aspires to become a criminal justice professor, continuing to inspire students as AACT once inspired her. 

Juliette Northman - Class of 2023 | Communication and Media Arts Academy

JulietteAACT

  Juliette’s journey is a testament   to talent, determination, and     the power of creative   storytelling. After focusing on   graphic design during her time in the Communication Arts Academy, she launched directly into her dream career—working full time as a comic book artist. Her growing portfolio includes upcoming work on trading cards for major companies such as DC (Detective Comics) and Upper Deck, and she is currently advancing through the hiring process to draw for Disney. Grateful for the foundation AACT provided, Juliette continues to rise in the world of illustration and entertainment, turning her passion into a thriving professional path and embodying the bold creativity of the Trailblazer spirit.
